1. Go to...
http://www.nationaltrustnames.org.uk/Map.aspx?name=MCCARRON&year=1881&altyear=1998&country=GB&type=name

This was got to from:
http://www.nationaltrustnames.org.uk/Surnames.aspx
Which was got to from:
http://www.nationaltrustnames.org.uk/default.aspx

In page 1 listed above a map should be displayed of the distribution in the UK, at the 1881 Census, of the concentration of the number of persons using the Surname McCarron.
[Someone in the USA is looking for McArran, which is an invented surname (or mis-spelling) methinks]

I cannot get either Firefox or Internet Explorer to display this.
In Firefox I installed an extra that blocks something [not sure what], probably it is "FlashBlock".
Anyway, it never normally causes a problem...
I just hover the cursor, the Flashblock icon changes to a play arrow [see screenshot below], and when I click that the item is normally displayed, but not in this case.

This is what I got for "McArran,"

There were no results found for your selection. There needed to be at least 100 people with the name on the Electoral Register in 1998 to be in the database. We are hoping to add these missing names at a later date.

I entered My own name and it worked perfectly

Yes, I too get that result for McArran, but that's not the problem...

The Problem is that I cannot get any name to work, even when it should.

Even the surname Smith won't result in the display of a map. :(

So I guess there's something wrong with my software [web browser?] configuration, but what?

I updated Adobe Flash Player 9 plugin to version 10.0.12.36

So far as I can tell it plays other things just fine.

Might javascript play a part in this?
It's enabled.
NoScript has scripts allowed globally for this site.

SUCCESS! :D

Disable the ADBLOCK add-on in Firefox and shut down and restarted Firefox and went to the site and it now functions as it aught.

See below a screenshot of the various concentrations of the use of the surname McCarron in 1881 in central Scotland.

Instead of disabling Adblock...whitelist the site.

And make sure that you have cookies enabled for it, too.

How do I whitelist the site?

Popups, Images, Cookies, are all allowed for this site.

The site is [and was when I couldn't view the map] whitelisted for Noscript.
