I recently contacted a technical support department reguarding one of their games that crashes when I reach a certain point thus causing my video card to freeze up ( at least that's what I think happens ) . Anyway the game will not respond and I need to exit with the Windows Control Manager. Then the game will not load at all unless I restart my system. One time I got the dreaded Blue Screen for the Nv4 issue. The support tech had me send them a copy of my DX Diag file and then instructed me to restart my computer using a "CLEAN BOOT " procedure that I HAVE NOT done since I'm quite sure what it may do my computer. IS THIS A SAFE THING TO DO OR NOT. I'm not sure it's worth the risk of messing up all the other files and games I have. I forgot to mention that I had already download a patch from their website for the game and updated both my video card and Direct X 9.0c.

I think the developers should create a patch to correct the problem rather than have me try this procedure. Anybody have an opinion???????????????? Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks:confused:   :(

Full system specs...especially video card.

Name of problem game...

Exact symptoms, any error messages, etc.

Also, if you could describe what the support tech told you to do...exactly. What steps were involved, etc.

I have a Dell Deminension 8250 running Windows XP with a GeForce 6800 video card with 111GB memory. Game name is Hardy Boys the hidden theft. I do not get any error messages the game just freezes with pop-up puzzles that occur during the game. The support tech gave me instructions on how to restart using a clean boot procedure with details at the following web address http://support.microsoft.com/kb/331796. Since I'd never heard of this I wanted more info before I started messing around with it. Need anything else?? Thanks

Yes, follow the MS link on how to do a 'clean' boot...the changes made are only temporary. '

Report back the results of the testing...
