I have a dial-up connection. Often, when I come home from work I will find that my computer has accessed the internet (it will be online but no activity). I believe one of the many programs on my computer (dozens of utilities) is dialing up the internet to look for an update to itself. The problem is I don't know what program is doing this. I have gone into every program on my computer to check options and make sure that "Check for updates automatically" is not ticked. No luck in finding the culprit.
Is there a way to find out what program is accessing the internet (a log maybe)? Thanks.
What firewall are you using?

To stop the behaviour for now.
Internet Explorers Tools Menu and Internet Options SubMenu and go to the Connections tab and for the default dial-up (indeed any other) connection simply change the setting to "Never Dial a Connection". That will prevent auto-dialling and you will have to manually OK it when a dial-up connection is invoked.
If something still dials-up then consider a scan for malware and check your phone bills.

Thanks Paul, I'll take your suggestion and implement it.
I am using Firefox with Comodo firewall. My virus scanner detects no viruses. Have run several spyware and malware programs but they have found nothing. Thanks

Check the logs in Comodo and check the Connections as you allow the unprompted dial-up to proceed dialing-up.
Alternatively or in addition use some packet sniffing or network monitoring tool to help you out. You could maybe try the 30 day trial of AdvancedAdminTools (http://www.glocksoft.com/download.htm). Others may have their own favourite applications for this whole area.
You should also be able to set the Windows Firewall to log connections but you should first turn off Comodo or other software firewall before enabling it.
