Hi there.

All of a sudden about two weeks ago I have not been able to access certain websites, for example photobucket, ebay, youtube and a streaming site that I use. With a couple of the sites, for example ebay and photobucket, the home page loads no problem, but as soon as I try and log in etc the connection will just hang. I am having no problems accessing other secure websites, and some of the sites I cannot access are not secure sites.
Its a my home pc on virgin media, I haven't changed any settings.

I ran an AVG scan, tried a system restore, flushed dns, turned off firewall, tried using firefox, problem still remained. Out of the blue thought I would try through a proxy site and I can ideed access the sites, not fully however as I cannot view the videos on the streaming sites or youtube through the proxy.

Has anyone got a clue as to what may be causing this and suggestions for a fix? Thanks in advance for any answers.

Phone Virgin Media Technical Support, they will [probably] talk you through various tests to find the cause and fix the problem.
At least they do if there's any possibility of it being caused by their service; they did with me.

Make sure your PC's clock is correct; year included.
Websites use cookies that time out after a while, and if your clock is incorrect they may be timing out immediately you attempt to log in.

Here's a wri [renamed to txt; open in Wordpad] document including advice given by Tesco on how to check/fix such problems:
