View Full Version : Combining Two networks - How do I?

Hello,

First post here, so sorry if I'm doing anything wrong.

Equipment -
Playstation 3
Netgear Modem / Router - DG834G (G spec wireless)
Belkin Router - F5D8233AU4 (N spec wireless)
Laptop - (N spec wireless)

I'm aiming for what I'm doing due to cost (not wanting to buy more) and locations of items, for instance I know it would be easier to have an N series modem router but that introduces wires where I don't want them to go.

My current network looks like this.

What I want to happen looks like this.
http://www.users.on.net/~peleus/want.bmp

- - - - means wireless connection
-------(solid) means ethernet

The point of this network is to stream 720p information into the PS3, so I need/want to use a minimum of of N wireless or ethernet. I've got no idea how to make the connection between the belkin N series and the netgear G series. If I bridge them does it make the data go 1 - 2 - 4 -3? If so this would mean it would be limited to the weakest speed, in this case (2) the G modem / router.

Ideally I'd just turn the wireless of the G series off and use wired so I wouldn't have a problem with conflicting networks, but like I said, it I can't really do that with how the wires have to run.

So... How do I combine the wireless networks, so the internet still feeds into the N spec router via wireless, which distributes the signal to the other clients on the network?

Thanks
