View Full Version : HJT log -- monster slow PC!

My PC is sick! I have been having issues with BSODs. The first one I believe was fixed by removing SpySweeper, but since I had ZA spyware running too it may have been a conflict...although I had them both running for years!
I'm not sure what was causing the second one, but then the PC started running slower than I ever saw. I noticed the CPU stayed at 100% no matter what was running. If I had a high runner and I killed it one or more other apps would ramp up to keep the CPU at 100%.
I also noticed that ZA was having issues starting up, so I uninstalled it and reinstalled it...during the reinstall it BSOD'd on me. I pulled it out again and downloaded AVG but it fails to install...now you know my sad story I need some help. I think my wife installed a game app that may have had some crap on it, or it could be the SKYPE I installed...HELP!!!!

Let me add a note...the AVG install failed, but as you can see in the HJT log there are parts that think they installed. Since it failed the install there is no UNINSTALL option so I'm not sure how to get rid of these bits and pieces.

I also noticed in my C: directory I have some files I've never notices before...they may or may not be related:

I have found this to be more annoying than useful...

You are correct about AVG problems...it is partially installed, so run HijackThis again, system scan only, and then fix the following.

Is Verizon your ISP?

Are these really needed?

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Exetender] "C:\Program Files\Verizon Games on Demand Player\GPlayer.exe /runonstartup"

O4 - HKUS\S-1-5-19\..\Run: [Exetender] "C:\Program Files\Verizon Games on Demand Player\GPlayer.exe /runonstartup" (User 'LOCAL SERVICE')

If not, uninstall them.

Get rid of these...

Is AdAware still installed?

If so, stop it and uninstall it.

If not fix this with HJT...

O23 - Service: Lavasoft Ad-Aware Service (aawservice) - Lavasoft - D:\Program Files\Lavasoft\Ad-Aware\aawservice.exe

Some of these, especially the AdAware one may need to be removed in Safe Mode...or by an uninstaller. Run any associated uninstallers, first.

Also, since you'll be without much in the way of protection...do this with the internet disconnected from this machine.

Also, your version of Java is a couple revisions out of date.

Your sqm files...they are related to Windows Live Messenger.

How do I remove

do I just do it in HJT? I don't want to remove Skype.

Verizon is my ISP, but I don't have anything to remove...
Do I fix this in HJT too?

again...HJT?

What would cause ZA to have issue starting up and AVG from loading....I have to have a virus of sometype, don't I? I can't get on the web without a Virus Scan!

The Skype plugin probably doesn't have an uninstaller...remove it with HJT.

The same with the other items...the Walgreens one is an optional removal, it can be handy if you do a lot of photo uploads to Walgreens. but even if you do remove it, the next time you go to upload photos it will install the latest/greatest version anyway.

As to the ZA problem...no, don't have to have a virus for that to mess up, it is quite capable of doing that all on its own...usually by trying to run a bad/corrupt update (which is not an uncommon occurrence).

AVG, on the other hand...

AVG 8 has pretty much fallen from favor, because it has become too bloated...kind of resembles Jabba the Hutt, these days.

For a lightweight, small footprint solution, try Avast (http://www.avast.com/) or AntiVir (http://www.free-av.com/).

It wouldn't be a bad idea to run MBAM. Follow the instructions below and post that log.

How to run a scan with Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware

Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from Here (http://www.besttechie.net/tools/mbam-setup.exe) or Here (http://www.majorgeeks.com/Malwarebytes_Anti-Malware_d5756.html)

Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Quick Scan", then click Scan.
The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart. (See Note)
The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
Note:
If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts.
Click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process.
If asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately.

Here's the MBAM log.
After uninstalling some stuff and running the MBAM it seems to be better, but still not good. The CPU usage seems to bounce around frantically and is still on the high side. Do you have any additional suggestions?

MBAM looks like it removed bits and pieces of minor stuff left over from running other removal tools.

Post another HJT log...I want to see if all the stuff that was marked for removal has been removed.
