My monitor keeps powering down/going into standby mode from which it doesn't respond. I initially thought it was a video card intermittent failure and have pretty much built a new PC only to have the problem remain. The only things from the original build are the case, power supply, monitor, hard disk (not system) and the optical drive.
I've got a new monitor ordered because I thought it must that which is failing but it looks to me like the power supply is getting a bit temperamental.
I noticed today that when I bang my desk with my fist my PC loses power for a spilt second (case fan leds go off) which sends the monitor into standby mode from which it cannot be wakened.
I've disconnected the reset switch in case that was somehow powering it down and I've poked around the power supply wires with a wooden spoon to try to replicate the problem but it only happens when it is knocked or as per the original problem, at seemingly random times for no reason.
Does this indicate a power supply problem? Has anyone else experienced this?
