Using an online analyzer (which is not recommended hereabouts), it did not see anything suspicious. You could try some other malware detecting programs to look for trojans and rootkits etc, but Simantec may have cleared the only problem already.

How does the computer perform?

hmm... alright i guess.

the headphone jack/mic jacks (front panel) do not work, but that is probably a coincidence.

as to that, he hasn't reported anything "funny"

Trojan byte verifier is no big deal. Clear the java cache and it will be gone. Run a MBAM scan and post the results....

*AWAJ will try renaming technique mentioned on "Vundo" Wikipedia article tomorrow morning, any objections?

Renaming the file is not going to do anything. You need to make sure once MBAM finds the file you follow the instructions earlier and fix them. look at your log:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\contim (Trojan.Vundo) -> No action taken.

Nothing will get better unless you do as your told.

MBAM gave two logs, as I didn't know which to put, I said put both up. Sorry. There are two different logs in that post, the first log is what was found, the second was what it did.

and keep running MBAM until it comes up clean.
Run-boot and run it again. If it comes up clean, boot into regular mode and run it.

Perhaps VundoFix might?

Also, HJT log still shows one of the files...

Oh, the program is saving the Log Before we do anything, and after. Some posts were after action taken some were before action taken...

I will try to post "after action" logs

First, go into the registry and remove the key that is causing the error. Next, please look to see if there is anything in the startup folder that might be launching this.

Remove Windows defender as this may be preventing the fixes from taking effect. Re-boot

Open Hijackthis and place a check next to:

Sorry CS, i really do not want to make you crazy, but it is making me crazy (me and my roommates)

I will do as you say immediately

Also, that "file"/ Reg Key--

I tried to delete it manually, but it restored itself, and the file does not exist where it (Regedit) says it is.

Thanks. Looks like ComboFix got most of it...

I probably should have done this scan from the start. It was on my list, but i had to go home, and then Awaj had to take the computer problem over.

How is it running? Give me some detail. There is still some stuff left over we need to squash so it does not come back.

Still gives that .dll error, but appears fine.

Seems that it is working fine.

The .Dll error was the only symptom i saw.

Open Hijackthis and place a check next to:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [bahipolara] Rundll32.exe "C:\WINDOWS\system32\vetariwo.dll",s

Close all open program and browser windows and click fix checked.

re-boot and give me a fresh log....

All of the infections MBAM are either in System Restore or Quarantined from other programs so leave them alone for now.

Please open Regedit and search for vetariwo.dll and let me know exactly where it is....

Will do. should i install Comodo Firewall right now?

He really needs a firewall on this machine.

Right now, i can not reach him to talk to him

well, i will install comodo then (i like comodo personally).

Thanks CS. I will tell Joe that he is "clean" for now, but to report back to me Monday next week if any problems show up

Should i kill those last few things?
One more scan?

I would like to remove all restore points and then create a new restore point.

Then do an MBAM scan and post the results...
