Hello, I need to buy a laptop for the family to use for word processing, internet, music, some home video conversion from analog to digital, etc. We have been using a Dell with a P4, 160 GB drive, and XP, which seems to work well enough for us. But, we need a second computer.

I am hoping you all can give me some guidance on the laptop purchase, since I do not want to pay too much, nor do I want to go too cheap on the components. So,

1. Will I regret not getting a Core 2 Duo processor and going with only a Pentium Dual Core processor to save money?

2. Am I going to have trouble running my Office and Home Student 2007 and other software if the new laptop only comes with the 64 bit?

3. Any other things I should know to get the best deal in the $600 range?

Thanks a lot for taking the time to answer. Tom

HI from my option.
I bought AMD 64 Bit processor ,4GB ram, 320 GB HDD.
if you do same with intel you will have to pay more.
Now a days AMD processor are doing good than Intel. so go for AMD based with 64 bit.
