our max budget would be $550That's an extremely low budget for a rackmount server! You sure you can't squeeze a bit more money out of your clan?
The 2.8 GHz Xeon's in the server you picked out are the old NetBurst CPU's! That means P4-based! That also means your current gaming desktop could run circles around that "new" server! The hardware is old. Very old.
It's still a good deal! Don't get me wrong! But you're mostly paying for the pleasure of having a 2U w/redundant PSU's. The only thing that gives me pause on that $550 server is that you can get a 2U w/redundant PSU's and modern hardware for just $400 more.
Now if that "just $400 more" sounds like a pipe dream to your clan, then that $550 server is a great deal and the best one you can afford. In which case, go ahead. But if "just $400 more" sounds like a reality for your clan, I'd encourage you to save up and shop around a bit more. Core beats NetBurst, SAS beats SCSI, and the old 8MB Rage XL has given way to the ES1000 (http://ati.amd.com/products/server/es1000/index.html).
I don't like buying old hardware. It feels like opening a bank account with debt. :( But maybe that's just me...

Cheers for that saph i've talked to some of the clan, we have all donated money to buy it, im not sure what the budget but can u please get the best bang for buck sever, im not sure what the current specs of our current one is (its like 100km away in a rack somewhere :p).
Say a budget of 800 euro ($960) what could we get, maybe a bit more
Edit: also, it has to be capable of running game servers, such as
-CoD 5 : WaW
-CoD 4
and any new game within the next year or so aswell as a website
(as you can tell i don't have a clue about servers :p)
