I want to optimize a connection between Exchange Server sites that
reside on the same physical LAN.
Which connector would I use?

Mike,
I'm not entirely sure, but I would GUESS an RJ-45 ethernet cord/jack, if you're on a LAN... but that's not for directly connecting two computers -- only plugging into the network itself.
An RJ-45 ethernet cord/jack can work at speeds of 10/100mbps, but it depends on the speed of the LAN itself, the Servers' processing speed, etc... a lotta factors to consider here.
If your network has a faster "backbone" to the internet (assuming you can or want to connect to it) such as OC-3, I would strongly suggest finding out the particulars of your requirements -- you may be able to get some form of gigabit connection. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif
Best of luck,
