what are logical drives and dos partitions?

Partition: Continuous section of sectors on the drive that are next to each other.

Primary DOS Partition The partition that holds the boot up files for DOS or Windows.

Extended Partition Any hard drive space that is left after creation of the Primary Partitin. Dos only allows one Extended Partition.

Logical Partition One or more sections (partitions) inside the Extended Partition that are seen by DOS or Windows as separate drive letters.
