I am looking for a CPU and mobo, but am on a budget of $300 for both together. Here is what I was thinking

Intel Q6600 Quad-core $180
Asus P5Q Pro $115

Does anyone have a better suggestion for a pairing on that budget. I will be using this for a gaming rig, hopefully playing the newest games as they come out, and I know the graphics card has a lot to do with that, but that is a whole other topic. Would I be better off getting a cheaper mobo in order to bump up to the new Q8300 coming out the end of this month? I am open to suggestions, so all input is appreciated. Thanks a lot.

An Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 might give you better performance in games ;)

Yeah, thats actually what I was originally intending on getting, but heard so much talk on here about quad-core supremecy that I changed it up. I would love to get an i7, but can't afford it and a LGA 1366 mobo right now. Maybe for the next upgrade when more games fully utilize four cores. So if I go with the E8500, would the P5Q Pro be my best bet for that price?
