Ok it was recently my b-day turned 18 and needed a computer upgrade bad. Didn't need a car/ or anything else i wanted a new PC.

upgrading from a AMD athlon 2500 1.8Ghz 1.5gigs of ram and a 6600 GT.

Considering how computers are today I've decided to join these forums and ask for some advice.

This would be a gaming PC.

Ive read reviews and tests between these 2 CPU;s and ive heard alot of different things.

Choice 1.

Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 Kentsfield 2.4GHz 2 x 4MB L2 Cache LGA 775 Quad-Core Processor - Retail
nVidia GeForce 9800 gt 1Gig 256bit.
DDR2 1066 4 gigs of ram
SATA DVD and HD
Can OC to like 3.5 GHz i heard

Choice 2.
Intel Core 2 Duo E8600 Wolfdale 3.33GHz LGA 775 65W Dual-Core Processor Model BX80570E8600 - Retail
nVidia GeForce 9800 gt 1Gig 256bit.
DDR2 1066 4 gigs
SATA DVD/ and HD
Can OC to like 4.5Ghz i heard

and my other question would be which OS to get. Im going on a Vista premium 64 bit, but i would like some other peoples input on this.

my question is which System would be the best for gaming and OCing.

The E8600 is a better gaming CPU than the older Q6600. What is your budget? Also, remember, any attempt to OC can result in having a nice expensive paper weight.

you should look into some different cooling options if you are going to OC
since you wouldn't want to ruin your new hardware
