So I'm getting a new television for my room, and I'm a bit concerned about size. The room is 15x11 (give or take a couple of inches), and I usually watch from 6-10 feet from the TV. Do you think a 42 inch plasma would be WAY too big for this sort of viewing area?

IMO it's not so much the size of the room, as to the viewing distance and angle(s) to the screen. Of course the angles have a lot to do with spacial placement of the given area.
The recommended distance for that size screen is 8-10 feet.

Yeah. If I had a tape measure, I could get you some actual measurements of viewing distance and whatnot. I have a 27 inch CRT television right now, and a 32 just doesn't seem like enough of an upgrade to justify 600 dollars. 42 would be enough, but I'm worried about the viewing distance.
This isn't for a living room by the way, this TV is going to be in my bedroom.

There is an in-between size of 37 inches, not a large selection but a possibility.

That's what I was looking at. But the one mitigating factor there is that a 37 inch LCD is going to cost the same as a 42 inch plasma, and it's five more inches. Whatever I get, I'm going to be sure to get a great warranty, just in case.
