Hello all,
This will be my first attempt at a computer build. My budget is around $800 $900 bucks. I was wanting to include a monitor as well, but it is not totally necessary. I also would like to leave room for upgrades in the near future. I would also prefer an AMD system, though Intel will still do just fine. I was thinking of starting with this bare bones kit from Tiger Direct. I picked this because I thought I could save a lot. I'm not really to sure what kind of performance strike I get with this though. http://http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=4226578&CatId=332
I have no idea what to get with the rest though. Any Help?

That's NOT a decent gaming rig. You firstly need a dedicated video card, (not onboard), about 4GB RAM, and a decent sized hard drive. PSU must be at least 500 watts.

Agreed. That barebones kit contains five components, and in order to make it gaming-worthy (even on a budget) I would suggest replacing five components. Barebones kits are rarely any good for gaming systems because by default they contain older over-stock components that are bundled together (for compatibility) to reclaim some revenue.
- The case is pure cr@p and wouldn't properly cool a modern gaming system to save its life. The bundled PSU is also pure cr@p because it's included with a $40 case - and keep in mind that most gaming-worthy PSU's exceed $50 just by themselves!
- The mobo uses a 2-year-old chipset and only has 10/100 LAN. Enough said.
- The CPU pre-dates AM2+! And it's not even more powerful than the fastest PD. If you're looking at AMD, Phenom is the name of the game.
- The RAM is DDR2-800 @ 5-5-5-15! That's at least 18 months old. No gamer buying new RAM right now should have to suffer with those timings!
Have we convinced you against this barebones kit, yet? :p

Barebones is not required. I just had that as a base build. Besides barebones, what would a good 800 to 1000 build with a monitor?

With the monitor included? I can't really recommend a build for you right now. My suggestion is to wait until January when some of the overstocks drop in price.
If you just want any old system that can play a game, keep an eye on Slickdeals.net or some other special deal website and grab a Dell or Gateway for cheap. Make sure it has a PCIe slot and stick a GPU in there. Even then you may break the bank. Recently, most of their PC deals are laptops, but there are often good desktops running around loose too.
You're not going to get a better deal than that if your budget is 1k for a full PC with monitor.

Hey for your budget I found an already built computer and it has an AMD athlon processor , which I favor over intel :)
Take a look at it http://www.buy.com/prod/hp-pavilion-a6330f-desktop-computer-2-8-ghz-amd-athlon-64-x2-dual-core/q/loc/101/206576085.html
Specs are :
2.8 GHz AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core Processor 5600+ CPU
3 GB (2x1 GB, 2x512 MB) RAM
500 GB 7200 rpm SATA Hard Drive
You'll have money left over, a couple modifications and you'll have a gaming PC.

well ok, as others have stated waiting is probably better just to see some prices drop, but do not be discouraged. I have made a totally decent pc ($300 ran crysis fine with no lag). With your budget, a decent pc with a monitor is very plausible but you just would not have the newest technology in it if youre able to deal with that.

okay, there is no specs on the PSU. Without a decent one, any gaming video card will be overkill.
