Howdy all...

I want to warn people about the issues at SpywareInfo these days... The owner -- Mike Healon -- disappeared a couple of years ago and the domain recently was put up for auction... We could not just take over the payments because GoDaddy refused to deal with anyone but Mike... We had anticipated that and purchased a new domain: Spywareinfoforum.com -- that is where we are now hosted with the same forum as before... cnm also picked up spywareinfoforum.info and has used that to post Mike's old newsletter site so that his newsletters remain available...

His old domain sold for more than $15,000 and we couldn't begin to come up with that kind of money... Whoever bought it is apparently trying to capitalize on the name recognition and high ranking for the old site, but has posted rogues and malware traps, so it should be avoided... Please let others know to stay away from it and to get the word out... It is the spywareinfo.com domain and it is NOT a legit site anymore...

We are attempting to get Google and other major search sites to remove the rankings since it is not a valid site anymore and the rankings are based on Mike's old site... Please help to put this pest out of business -- the best outcome would be for the site to not get any business and simply be out $15,000 of what is probably stolen money anyway...

Thanks for posting that, it stinks that they allow squatters to take the domain for evil purposes.

Wow, thank you so much for that update. That is sad that they are attempting to capitalize on something good to insert malware onto people's pcs. I hope Google help you out!

Unfortunately, that article is from before the sale was completed... The bad guys did get it and they are rotating through different providers and posting different pages, presumably to try to scam as many people as possible before they are shut down... Also, unfortunately there are links to the old site all over the security forums (including in various threads here) that still point to the old address... Finding and purging all of those is very difficult... Even ASAP still points to the old site because we haven't been able to get in touch with the owner of that site to have it changed...

The main hope we have is for enough people to complain that the site is permanently closed down, but GoDaddy has been impressively unwilling to consider that, presumably since they made $15,000 on the deal... Of course, they are likely to find that the "check" bounces after a delay... If you deal with criminals, you need to expect to get robbed...
