Never had this problem before, anyone have any idea's on this? If it means anything, I cannot do any Windows Updates either? Thanks

Yeah, we need more info. Which operating system? How did you recovered the system? How did you download IE7, windows update or manual download?

Ok, I am using xp home edition oem, I did a Non Destruction system recovery using hp's built in recovery.
I went to both to a yahoo/optimized for IE7 download site and also tried the Microsoft IE7 download site, they were exactly the same screens.
Tried it three or four times, keeps going back to IE6??? Thanks

If you have or can borrow a windows installation cd then try:
sfc /scannow
from a command prompt or else maybe try a repair installation (http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm).

Plzzz explain the aboves. What happens, IE7 installs successfully but when you open it, it looks like IE6? Or it gives any error message during the install?!
Open IE, go to Help and then click About. What IE version does it say? Can you post some screen shot of it or of any error messages you get during the install.
Try IE7 from this link,
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=9AE91EBE-3385-447C-8A30-081805B2F90B&displaylang=en
Try booting to "safe mode with networking" and install IE7 from above if it doesn't install in normal mode.
Another thing, You need to have at least xp service pack 2 installed on you system to install IE7. Go to the system properties, general tab and find out which service pack is installed. If it doesn't say anything about service packs, then you need to install at least service pack2. But installing service pack 3 is recommended.
To take screen shot,
press the PrintScreen key on the keyboard(the key may be labelled differently like PRTSC, and may have another label called SysRq, its grouped together with Pause/Break & INS key)
open paint, go to edit and paste
save as jpeg

The IE7 shortcut icon changes after installation to one with a gold band round the e.

Solved, I did run sfc /scannow but it found nothing.
Here is what I found, after the recovery, my computer was acting crazy at times I thought I had a bad virus or trojan but all scans came up with nothing.
I figured I knew it must have to do with the windows updates, if you have no updates on your pc it can act nuts, but I could not download and install the Windows updates the window just stayed there saying it was checking to see what updates I needed, so i thought since I needed them all, it was taking a long time to gather info. But it was taking much too long, so I click on the tab that said Microsoft updates at the top of the updates screen and another screen came up stating microsoft is using a newer faster way to do updates so i had to register again and then the update started up but the only update was the sp3 so It did download and install this time, I heard sp3 contains alot of compressed updates (I think that was the new faster way mentioned) But dont know for sure. Any way once it was installed I could NOT use my IE6 any more with sp3, I read something to the affect >>> and I might have this backwards <<< that if you have IE7 before you install sp3 you cannot go back to IE6 or visa versa. I forget what I read, I even think they mentioned a Softpaq download to fix it or something.
Anyway I was able to install IE7 too and now everything is working pretty good.
I want to Thank All You guys very much for your help, Tom

Glad it is solved. IE7 needs at least service pack2(SP2) to work as I said. Now that you've got the latest SP3, you're fine.
One suggestion though, Limit IE to windows update only and use Mozilla Firefox (http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/) for everything else.

CuratoR Thats exactly what I try to do, even now I am on IE7 and iexplore.exe is eating up cpu to 100%
You cannot surf to many sites anyway on IE atleast I always have trouble with it.
Firefox is great, love the No Scripting add ons etc. Thanks
