First post here guys and gals, I've searched tirelessly...
Equipment:
HP desktop (office - 3rd floor)
Linksys modem/wireless router gateway (office - 3rd floor)
iMac - (studio - 1st floor) built in 802.11G
Dell desktop (living room - 2nd floor) w/ netgear USB wireless adaptor (802.11N)
Dell laptop (kitchen - 2nd floor) w/ built-in 802.11N
Setup:
HP desktop plugged into Linksys Gateway via ethernet cable (only 3 feet from each other) Gateway plugged directly into cable outlet (comcast)
iMac wireless
Both Dell's wireless
Problem:
the hardwired HP and Linksys router connects flawlessly. the iMac connects wirelessly without a hitch (well, sometimes it will drop signal, but we write that off to distance and interference).
Now, i flip on my laptop and/or the Dell desktop and i get maybe 5 mins worth of wireless coverage. Like clockwork, if I'm working on either of these two machines, the router will go down knocking ALL machines offline. I have to run up to the office to power it down and start it back up. It will work fine for another 5 mins or so, and boom, goes down again. As soon as I remove either of the N devices from the network, it works flawlessly again.
I've plugged my laptop in directly via ethernet, and it works fine. It seems like the two 802.11N devices is what knocks the internet down. what gives?
thanks in advance for any advice!
