I am trying to add 2 extra hard drives to my system. I have an Abit BM6 mobo with a Promise ultra66 controllewr card. I have a WD 2o gig ata66 7200 rpm hd on that card. I have 2 5400 rpm hard drives configured as slaves. I hooked them to the other ide conn. on the controller card and wanted to fdisk them to set them as extended partitions but the system doesn't see them. I than conn. them to the ide1 on the mobo. Still the system didn't see them. Any thoughts on what I am doing wrong? I don't want to hook them uip with the 7200 rpm h.d. because they will slow it down. What am I doing wrong? Thanks!

if they are both configured as slaves, and they are both on the same controller, that would likely be your problem. Each controller needs to have a master, and if you have a second item, then it is a slave. Change the jumper so that one of the hard drives master.
