View Full Version : Need help choosing a quiet video card
I am willing to buy a geforce 9600gt card but i am not sure which option is the most quiet with good thermal solution .. while browsing some reviews i was confused by the different opinions ..
Checking reviews for ASUS EN9600GT silent 512MB some of them mention that it gets really hot under load and others not .
Please if anyone has a good experience with this card or any other card in terms of quietness and temperature give me a hand .
p.s am not intrested in overclocking .

Welcome lowy!
one of the 1st questions we ask is... whats your budget?
quietness i would say is determined by the user. I find my gfx card is quiet. others may not.
wrt to temps, i too read about the 9600s having high operating temps. i didnt dig too much into it though
my budget is around $120 max .. my case has a side vent .. should i go for asus silent version ( which is 20-30 bucks more then pny evga msi ..) or any other card wont do bad for me ..

When you say silent you want passive cooling with no fan?
Your best bet is to buy a normal HD 4830 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814131129) (alot better than the 9600Gt) and using catalyst lower the fan speed... When you say you want silence do you have a stock intel/AMD cooler and some case fans? if so you wont really notice any increase any more noise with that GPU in
Here is my build :
GIGABYTE GA-EP45-UD3R
Intel Core 2 Duo E8500
Crucial Ballistix 4GB (2 x 2GB) DDR2 800
SAMSUNG SpinPoint T Series 500GB
CORSAIR CMPSU-450VX 450W ATX12V V2.2 80 PLUS Cert
Gigabyte isolo 210 Case with 2 fans
after looking for reviews i concluded that all the parts are quiet .. even the intel stock fan at idle ..
any other thoughts ?

Go with the HD 4830 it will be fine be a fraction louder than the stock intel fan on load
