Hello, I'm currently running Microsoft Vista home premium, on an Acer desktop. I am having a problem accessing several sites that I know for fact are not down, for instance, digg.com receives a "network timeout" error when I try to access it. This does not happen on another computer that is on my same network through a wireless router. This is the message I get:

Network Timeout

The server at digg.com is taking too long to respond.

The requested site did not respond to a connection request and the browser has stopped waiting for a reply.

* Could the server be experiencing high demand or a temporary outage? Try again later.
* Are you unable to browse other sites? Check the computer's network connection.
* Is your computer or network protected by a firewall or proxy? Incorrect settings can interfere with Web browsing.
* Still having trouble? Consult your network administrator or Internet provider for assistance.

I have been looking all over the internet and have found several "fixes" for the problem but it is definetly still here:
I tried changing the values for network timeout in about:config for firefox, no luck. I have tried using another browser (other than firefox), still the same problem. I have also used command prompt to ping the sites, no luck. I have restarted the browsers and computer, still no luck. Lastly, I have disabled auto-tuning and that did not help.

If anyone could help me, that would be awesome, I know this is a very good forum to turn to, since I have used it several times and received nothing besides friendly, helpful suggestions.

Instead of PING, try TRACERT.
This might show a bad device along the route to your site.
It more likely to be an ISP/backbone issue than something with your PC.
Are you using IPv4 or IPv6? Is the one you are not using turned off (should be off)?

I just tried TRACERT digg.com, and this is what i got:

1 <1ms <1ms <1ms 192.168.1.1
2 * * * Request timed out
3 * * * Request timed out
4 * * * Request timed out
.
.
.
.

and as far as I know, IPv4 and IPv6 are both enabled for my LAN connection (I am using a router) in the properties window.

I just check the other computer, I guess it must be a problem with the router or ISP because on second glance I'm having the same problem with that computer.

Can you post the results of entering
ipconfig /all
from a command prompt.

Which firewalls are enabled and could they be blocking?

Have you tried rebooting the router?

I seem to be having a similar problem...

till about 2 months back my pc was working perfect... I have a 1Mbps internet connection... but now there are sites that refuse to load or take a long time to load... I feel my connection breaks as Yahoo messenger and Google talk keep signing out and back in frequently... I have tried everything that i can possibly do...

1. I called my ISP ang got my line cable changed... then the modem too on my insistence... the modem logs showed no break in connection... The line light was always on...

2. I formatted my PC and did a clean reinstall of the OS...

3. I got another network lan card and installed it...

Now I am stumped... The issue is so annoying and it continues... Can anyone please help me out?

If I am not supposed to post n this thread please let me know and I will start another one...
