Hello, I'm currently running Microsoft Vista home premium, on an Acer desktop. I am having a problem accessing several sites that I know for fact are not down, for instance, digg.com receives a "network timeout" error when I try to access it. This does not happen on another computer that is on my same network through a wireless router. This is the message I get:
Network Timeout
The server at digg.com is taking too long to respond.
The requested site did not respond to a connection request and the browser has stopped waiting for a reply.
* Could the server be experiencing high demand or a temporary outage? Try again later.
* Are you unable to browse other sites? Check the computer's network connection.
* Is your computer or network protected by a firewall or proxy? Incorrect settings can interfere with Web browsing.
* Still having trouble? Consult your network administrator or Internet provider for assistance.
I have been looking all over the internet and have found several "fixes" for the problem but it is definetly still here:
I tried changing the values for network timeout in about:config for firefox, no luck. I have tried using another browser (other than firefox), still the same problem. I have also used command prompt to ping the sites, no luck. I have restarted the browsers and computer, still no luck. Lastly, I have disabled auto-tuning and that did not help.
If anyone could help me, that would be awesome, I know this is a very good forum to turn to, since I have used it several times and received nothing besides friendly, helpful suggestions.
