I'd say 2000, just because it has the stability of XP without the bloat. NT4 is great for older PC's... I'd use it everyday if it had DirectX support. Then again, I use 98 everyday...

At first I thought vista would make my computer run slowly ,but it is very fast
64x vista has better performence than 32 bit vista

Xp is the operating system i am most expirienced with
I have tools that turn off unessicery services

at the moment I am using my laptop

No question, my favorite MS OS is Server 2008. Virtual apps and virtual machines are totally cool. So far, mine hasn't crashed and the server core iteration puts a lot of power in a small footprint even if it doesn't support all the roles. Microsoft finally learned something from Unix. Having domain services, DNS, DHCP, and virtual machines running from a CLI interface is 15 lbs. of stuff in a ten pound sack.

I do this with a VBScript. No special tools needed. (Except maybe spell check. ;) )

I vote 2000 probably, closely followed by Windows Me.
2k for sheer stability and no bloat, small footprint and works well.
Me for the fact that i grew up on 9x, and Me brings back old memories, i love it. Also with the proper tools, it's a very stable OS.

I know That I don't have perfect spelling
I use my Vista for gaming because it is more powerful than my laptop and has directx 10

As a gamer it has to be Vista 64bit. The need for support for more than 4GB ram is quickly becoming a necessity.

Try running a pair of 1GB video cards and a nice sound card on XP32 and end up with something like 1.5GB of usable system ram. ;)

That isn't going to cut it for gamers much longer.

That's a good point
Even if people are able to make directx 10 work on xp 32bit
It won't be easy to run Ram Intensive Games on that

Server 2008...Vista-lite...

Vista without the crap...

What Vista should have been...

And if it was, everyone would be loving Vista.

Does my AWE64 ISA card count as a "nice sound card?" Because I love this thing.

I'm not sure, i don't know much about sound cards
I have a Realtek HD card in my acer

A sound card was just an example of something with dedicated ram. Could be anything with it's own ram. It all has to get an address by the OS for it to be able to be used by the system.

1-6, your system is well within the 4GB limit. No worries for you.

what anti-virus program you using in your XP-Pro?
Anything has to be turned ON to make it work?
Tren Micro's PcCillin that I got don't want to install: "Wrong OS" however they claim it works in X64
Getting an answer from them is about easy as walking on water .... normal temp. water... not frozen :)

well I went from vista x64 to Windows 7 32bit and will soon install x64 windows 7. Windows 7 is definitely faster than vista, at least it is IMO.

Micro XP - an nLite'ed version of XP Pro, which runs on just about anything, installs in 200MB and runs like a rocket on smelling salts. VERY reliable, small, sleek and fast, and what MS Server should have been all along.

I'm really liking the Windows 7 but my heart still belongs to 2000. It's basically what I learned on.
