new mode screen

How do get the "new mode" screen to turn off? It stayed on one day when I started my computer and will not go away.

It's a blue box that appeared when the computer was turned on having something to do with screen resolution and "new mode" was at the top of the message. We had a power outage yesterday and when we started up the computer the screen was gone. So all is well until next time.
