This one really has me stumped. I noticed that Internet Explorer was trying to open and sign me on to the internet every time I re-started my PC. I went into MSCONFIG, Start-up tab and removed the checkbox from the IE item. This worked for awhile then my computer would randomly try and sign on again. Lo and behold the checkbox in the MSCONFIG start-up tab was magically reselected. Upon closer inspection of the command line for the IE item, I noticed it included the following: notepad.exe qaswsx.hsq

I then made the connection (and verified)that the random sign-ons and reselection to start IE at start-up, occur every time I open a "readme" file or other .txt file i.e. running notepad. Can anyone help expain why/how this is happening or more importantly help me eliminate this crazy relationship.

I do not know how to manipulate the start-up tab items and can find no reference anywhere to qaswsx.hsq

Thanks

Unfortunately, that sounds like the Qaz.Trojan virus. Look at this page:
http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/qaz.trojan.html

Good Luck!
