Hello guys,

My computer crashed badly this week. It won't start at all. I have windows vista bussiness on caompaq notebook AMD thurion 64, 2GHz ram etc.

A simple reinstall would fix my pc, but here is the problem. My vista cd is gone. so I got my friends vista. With his cd i tried a recover, but none of the option in the recover system would work ( I do have to resinstall), but the thing is that i do not have my product ID. Is it possible to REINSTAL vista and keep My product ID? Or how do I recover my product ID from the prompt MS-DOS? The prompt MS_DOS is the only thing I can access. Whren I put my friends' Vista CD in the computer it gves the option of opening the prompt. I got a HDD backup this way. But is it possible to get my product ID?

Thanks,

mjc

The needed ID should be on a label or sticker attached to the notebook...somewhere.
