Ok everyone sorry for the long post in advanced and I have searched and searched and tried everything that I can and I still have the same issue. So you guys are my last resort and last chance.

I just got a new Desktop PC running XP service pack 2

I also have a laptop running XP service pack 3

Both Pc's get the "Windows was unable to find a certificate to log you to the network"

The Internet then drops the connection and then reconnects. This is very annoying because I cannot upload anything because this disruption happens every min or two.

The main problem that I have is that I do not know what hardware or software is causing the problem. I have tried to trouble shoot it down to a specific device ie wireless card or router or computer to no avail.

I tried to connect to a neighbor’s unsecured network and get the same error. My router is a Dynex Router. The neighbors are a Belkin so this makes me think it is not the router. However I am not sure if it is the card in my desktop because my laptop also gives me this error. I am at a loss……………………

I have completely unsecured my Dynex router thinking that it was a WPA or WEK error? Still get the same error. I gave my Desktop a static IP to connect to so that it would not have to search for an IP still get the error. I have been on tech support with Linsys (wireless card) and Dynex Router Company and they offer no help.

I read somewhere about wireless zero configuration on the PC being an issue but cannot seem to locate this on my PC??

I have also seen this as a fix “hat error message can pop up if you're running IEEE 802.1x authentication, but are not actually in a 802.1x (EAP) environment”

I have this feature turned off or un checked. Actually this option is grayed out and there is no way to check it or uncheck it.

Interesting, have you tried connecting to the router with a wired connection and disabling the wireless NIC? I wonder if this is related to wireless connections only. If it is, I would lean more towards your machine trying to connect to someone elses wireless that is using RADIUS. Maybe they have a stronger signal than your wireless router. That would explain why you can connect, then a few minutes later you get the message. I would also make sure your SSID is unique. Maybe a neighbor has the same SSID and channel as you. Try the wired connection and disable the wireless completely and see if it happens again.

Look at the Application and System log for errors or warnings that occur at the same time you get the pop up message.

Right click My Computer, click Manage, expand Event Viewer.

Some have fixed that error under WXP SP2 (when using WPA encryption) with MSKB 917021 (http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=917021)
