clean install of windows

my pc's starting to lag so i want to do a clean install. i've split my only physical hard drive into 2 partitions. if i put all my data onto the partition that doesn't have the os installed, will my data be safe if i wipe the OS partition?

As long as you are careful and don't accidentally format the data partition, you'll be fine.
