Slow running pc. Have run Malawarebytes, CC Cleaner, Kaspersky Internet Security 2009, & Adaware but no problems detected.

Windows Vista Home Premium
Intel Pentium Dual CPU EZ2140 1.60 GHZ
1GB Memory (RAM),
SP 1
96 GB free space on HD, 223 Total HD space capacity

I LIFO'ed all software recently installed and it appeared to have returned to normal, but only for a short while. It takes up to 1 minute sometimes for the desired linked page to appear (I have HI Speed Internet service via cable modem) and other times it says the page cannot be found even though am attempting to gain access to previously accessed & (bookmarked) sites , even if I type in address myself. Especially strange as ISP recently installed a "Node(?)" which they said would result in increased speed. The speed part was right. Noticed that when I used P2P after it's NODE installment my dl & up sped had increased dramatically.

A speedy reply will be greatly appreciated.

Disable any 'site' checking features in your AV/antimalware apps...

Thank you for your timely response. Don't understand what you mean by "Disable any 'site' checking features", and as such do not know what I am supposed to do. Please clarify.

Most AVs/antimalware apps have features to check websites for malware, anitphishing features, etc. Temporarily disable those.

I just read the other night about KIS being implicated in some slowdowns...those features of it being the prime suspects for the slowdowns.

Also, what are the exact programs that you are running for 'protection'...the ones that you have running all the time, doing background scans, etc.

Task Manager's Process tab shows KIS as being the only security software running. Neither Malawarebytes, CC Cleaner nor Adaware are set to continuously monitor for offending programs. have also disabled Windows Firewall.

No noticeable difference in browser - Mozilla Firefox v 3.0.5 - speed.

I'll try restarting PC now and see if that makes any difference.

You can forget any kind of decent performance w/o at least 2 GB of RAM when running Vista.....
