View Full Version : how do I turn off input bits? And is it bad to do so?

So I have connected two PCs with a parallel cable- one end is hooked into the parallel port of a "slave" computer while the other is hooked into the digital I/O port of an A/D board connected to a "master" computer. I have had no problems pulsing the slave computer with a bit pattern from the master (e.g., 00001000b)- the slave waits for and identifies the pattern and then performs the next functions in my program. However, I also need the slave to be able to pulse the master computer in the same way- however, all of the input bits at the master end are turned on (11111111b), which prevents me from just turning on one bit to pulse the master. I have tried sending a pattern with all of the bits turned off (00000000b) from the slave, but this does nothing. Does anyone have any suggestions? http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/frown.gif
