ok so my cpu fan just died out, it was making tons of noise and i was getting the CPU Fan Error message when i would boot up, i just bought a brand new fan and installed it, and my computer is still giving me the same error, i know i pluged it into the correct place!! any suggestions? its really annoying and i don't want my PC to burn out.
Ok..does the new fan spin when powered on?
Was the old one two, three or four wires?
Did you reset the BIOS after changing the fan? Check the section with the hardware monitors...you may need to change things like the speed setting for the alarm, etc.

yeah it spins when i power on, the old one was three pronged but the new one has one three pronged and two four pronged plugs, i checked theh fan settings in BIOS and it does recognize it (I think) but it dosn't have anywhere where i can change any settings for the fan. I downloaded a temperature program and the hotest my pc is getting is around 53 C which i don't think is too bad

i checked the fan settings in BIOS and it does recognize it
So the bios shows an rpm figure for CPU Fan, correct? If so what is it?
For clarity you have connected the small plug from the fan into the mobo header.

For further clarity the fan has three wires leading off it just like the pic ie red and white/black and yellow which is the rpm sensing.

well as far as i can tell there is no rpm setting it just askes to acknowledge it or ignor it
i believe i have it pluged into the correct plug, its the only one i can see with three pins and it's where my old fan was pluged in

The bios will have a tab 'PC Heath Status'. Within that it will show temps and rpm for cpu fan.

What does the cpu rpm value read?? Does it sometimes just drop to 0.
The reason I ask is that reading dropouts at low RPM (2500 or lower) is a fairly common occurence on a lot of boards. It is caused by the fact that the amplitude of the speed sensor signal drops off with rpm, as does the frequency of the signal. Some fans have a bit stronger signal output and thus the reading doesn't quit until the speed is lower.
Hence potentially giving you this cpu fan error message at boot. Not much you can do about it other than either disabling the cpu fan sensor or trying another fan.
Good Luck
