If you’ve decided to give Windows 7 a whirl and have recently installed the open now closed beta, you’ll have noticed that upon installation you are notified of the fact that you’re lacking proper antivirus software.

This is nothing new and actually has been a “feature” of Windows ever since XP’s SP2 got released and the Security Center came to exist. It’s nothing new either to have a majority of antivirus suites to become incompatible with brand new operating systems - and Windows 7 is no exception, especially more so in its current beta form.

Upon a bit of investigation you probably made your way to the Windows 7 security provider page at Microsoft’s site and perhaps were let down by the fact that the three “officially” supported AVs are all paid software or that your preferred suite isn’t listed (AVG is listed but not the free version). So, we’ve decided to install and test a variety of the more popular options out there so you don’t have to.

It appears that you joined and posted primarily to promote your download site... Each of the recommendations you give are linked to downloads through your site rather than the originating sites... How many other sites are you posting this advertisement for your site to?? I know of two others so far and see that you have already been banned from one of them...

I apologize if that is how it appears - unfortunately, you are mistaken. That post was in no way meant to draw traffic to TechSpot's download section. We link ourselves internally when possible, but who doesn't?

I've posted it here in hopes of having more feedback for which AVs to test as well as more information regarding Windows 7 user experiences and I figured it'd be worthwhile information for the readers here anyway.

It has been posted by me on roughly 4 other forums, one of which banned me for spamming. I will attempt to reverse that with them in a day or so, as I feel I have not violated any of their posting guidelines.

If you are legit and want forums to believe that, I suggest you ask permission from the forum leadership before posting... Most people who join the forum to promote their programs/sites are SPAMmers and are not tolerated in many forums...

Again, my apologies. Who might I speak to to obtain permission here?
