View Full Version : upgrading dell dimension 8200 desktop pc

hello all - i have a p4 dell dimension 8200 desktop pc @ 1.7 ghz that i ordered in Nov. 2001 brand-new & it was the latest model out on the markert at the time from dell.com. it came with an 80 gb hard drive, 512 mb ram, an nvidea graphics card, soundblaster live sound card, etc. (will post remaining specs tomorrow, both original & updated), and i'm wondering, how far can this pc be upgraded? i would like to replace the p4 1.7 ghz processor with a core 2 duo processor, the 512 mb ram with 2 gb ram, and the original nvidea card with a 1 gb nvidea graphics card, and the 2 hard drives (the original 80 gb hd, and the 120 gb hard drive i added in dec. 2006) with 2 500 gb hard drives, along with windows xp_sp2. this pc came with win xp no service packs at all.

how far can it be upgraded?

will post remaining stuff i want to upgrade with tomorrow after i post the remaining specs it came with as well as stuff i added.

No go on the CPU upgrade...

Probably not on the video card.

Maybe on the RAM.

Doubtful on the drives.

SP2...easy, just go to MS and grab the download...and then rinse and repeat for SP3.

mjc, i was thinking about buying a gaming computer from this ecollegepc site - i just clicked on the gaming system > customize from the home pg., and it takes me to the hardware selector pg. which lists all the hardware and their prices along with how much it'll cost all totaled up. i'm thinking of upgrading because i want to play the latest pc games - such as "heaven" by genesis works and "stonewall penetiary" in my computer, as well as new adventure pc games that're coming out in the future that i'd maybe like to get (they haven't been announced yet over at gameboomers.com)

i'd take that 1gb 9500 nvidea video card over the radeon card - as i now play exclusively adventure pc games. and i want to stick with win xp_sp2, not have to go with vista (yukk!) what do you think?
