This may be a dumb question, but how can I find out what type of RAM this computer uses (EDO/SDRAM)?

Thanks!

How.
Chances are if you look at the memory module slots and determine wether its 72pin SIMM or 168pin DIMM then you will have your answer.

Far as i know there are no SDRAM SIMM Modules and only 1% of the mother boards use EDO DIMMs(excluding laptops(SODIMMS)).

Second way is to look at the BIOS configuration settings.
They should have settings for the RAM timing and such.

Third way is to try to pause the system on POST when it flashes the BIOS System Info.

Last, take it out and look at it! It should say something relevant Later...

Bit of clarification on chad's info:

Third way is to try to pause the system on POST when it flashes the BIOS System Info

IF you don't have a manufacturer's splash screen in the way, this would be the screen after the memory count, you'll see a rectangular box with basic computer info. It will show printer ports, serial ports, CPU, etc, and what type memory is installed, and in which banks. Use the [Pause] key to hold that screen, any other key will resume the boot process.

If you have a splash screen, the [Esc] key should clear it.

Soon as I come up with all the answers...they change the questions!!

Ok, I tried getting rid of the splash screen at start-up, but didn't see any bios info. Someone told me to hit F1 when the computer started...I saw the BIOS settings, but it only told me how much extended memory I have, not what kind. THEN I took the RAM module out to examine it. It appears to be a 72 pin SIMM...this would mean it's EDO RAM, correct?

Hey.
Yes i would guess its EDO.
Unless its real old and uses FPM or possibly Parity.
Parity usually has an odd number of chips.
I would safely assume EDO tho. Laters...

Can you find a brand and model number on the motherboard? It makes searching for a manual or specs a lot easier.

If you have the manufacturer's model number you can go to crucial.com and go through their model # etc and they will tell you what memory goes into your system. For example: IBM 2153 E2N I click on IBM and another search asking for model(drop down screen) highlight 2153 then another search and highlight E2N on the drop down screen and All the memory part numbers and description appear.
