View Full Version : mice
I have a p 133 computer with Win 98 that has a serial mouse plugged in and working. There is a port for a ps/2 mouse, I plugged a Microsoft Intelligent scroll mouse in and nothing !
I installed the drivers for the PS/2 and in the control panel/system/device it shows the drivers for both, but the ps/2 still doesn't work while the serial mouse does. I want the ps/2 to work, what do I do?
I think you may need to go into the BIOS and select the PS/2. I don't know if other systems do the mouse port selection differently.

Yep, check the BIOS settings. The PS/2 mouse setting should be in the Integrated Periferals section of BIOS.
Also check Device Manager. PS/2 mouse, when enabled will take IRQ 12, make sure it's available before you enable it, so you don't end up with a conflict later. In Device Manager, highlight Computer and click Properties to see a list of IRQ's currently in use.
You might also disable COM1, if you need the free IRQ later for something else. Unless IRQ's are scarce you can usually leave it.

Soon as I come up with all the answers...they change the questions!!
