I have a 1.2gig drive that is completely full, I have just installed a new 6.0 gig. I will be removing the 1.2 from the system and I need to copy everything over to the 6.0 without losing anything. I do not have the OS that is on the small drive so I cannot do a new install. I have been told to use xcopy, but I don't know enough about it. Any help would be appreciated.

Some new hard drives are shipped with a diskette that will partition, format, and copy the OS (and files) over to the new drive, like Maxtor's MAXBLAST. You may be able to download it from the manufacturer's site. The utilities can also overcome the hard drive size limitation in the BIOS.

Xcopy is not a great idea, it won't work as well as some claim. Follow Reid's instructions, the software he referred to works very well, and will transfer a working OS to the new drive. Maxtor calls it Max Blast, Seagate calls it Disk Wizard/Disk Manager, Quantum calls it Disk Go etc. It's all basically Ontrack's Disk Manager. I have links to several of the manufacturers' websites on my webpage if you want to find it quick and painless...
