I'm working on an IBM Aptiva system and I recently removed the CPU (AMD Athlon 650Mhz Slot A-type).
I purchased a new CPU of exactly the same type and plugged it into the slot on the motherboard.
When i boot up the only thing i get to see is the IBM logo on the screen and then it stops.
I removed the CPU and put it back into the slot to make sure it sits tight and at he right spot. Didn't help it. Fan on the CPU is working and the mo/bo has power.
I don't know what to do from there?
Did i damage the mo/bo?
I appreciate any help/ideas to solve this problem.
Thanks in advance

Alex

Could be Electrostatic Discharge, otherwise known as static electricity. Caused by touching components when not properly grounded. Takes 2,000 volts to feel it, less than 100 volts to fry components.

Try removing the memory chips and reseating them, and the same for the video card. Could just be a bad connection.
