View Full Version : Use a computer in more than one room?

I would like to use my computer in two adjacent rooms in our house (but not necessarily at the same time). My video card has a TV out so I'll probably have a TV in one room and a monitor in the other. I'll need a keyboard and a mouse in each room. Can I do that? I'm assuming it might work if one of each of them is USB, with the other being PS/2. I'll have a USB hub in one room to connect the mouse, keyboard, and any other future devices, whereas the other room will have a PS/2 mouse and keyboard. Will there be any resource conflicts?

Thats just not a good idea.
Get an A/B box if you want to do it right.
Your OS would NOT like 2 keyboards and mice being attached...ask it if you dont believe me http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif

Okay, I see. Do they have a/b switches for USB? Would I just get a USB hub for each room, and use the switch to select the active input devices?

I saw some devices in a Cyberguys (http://www.cyberguys.com) catalog that look like they might do what you want, but I didn't see how long the cable runs can be. They would probably need to have some type of line drivers if you intend to go more than a few feet. Their online catalog is not as easy to use as the old-fashioned paper one.

There was a device called PC Buddy that let a remote monitor, mouse, and keyboard share a PC, but it looks like they went out of business.

I'm sure this PC-Share (http://www.allstoragesystems.com/zRaritan%20Switch/raritan07.htm) device is too expensive for most people, but I was just searching out of curiosity to see if such a device existed.
