Hello everyone,i'm new here and i have few questions and i need some suggestions about what should i buy to upgrade my computer to react and operate a little bit faster.I want that my games run smoothly and with no lagging or any other problems,i want to buy a new main board DDR2 and with it 2 GB RAM ... so here are my computer configurations for now :
1.RAM DDR - 512MB DDR 400MHZ Kingston
2.Video Card - GF GF6200,128MB ASUS EN6200GE/TD TV Out
3.CPU AMD - K8 AMD64 2800 + Socket 754,512k 400MHz
4.Main Board - ASRock K8Upgrade - NF3 (ram slots : 2 DDR DIMM ; UP SET : nForce3 - 250) ... i want to know if i buy a new main board DDR2 and 1GB or 2GB ram with it, will the rest of my computer withstand the new configurations? If i want to change those parts of my computer (the ram and the main board) do i need to change any other parts ? And how can i upgrade my computer with these configurations without changing everything? ... i just want to upgrade it to run the games faster and more smoothly without spending to much money :) ..thank you very much ,i hope someone can help me.

200$ for a PC that will play games... hmmm
I have selected a new CPU, MOBO, PSU, RAM and GPU
Intel Pentium E5200
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819116072
$69.99
GIGABYTE GA-EP45-UD3L LGA 775 Intel P45
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128372
$93.99
Rosewill RP500-2 500W
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817182016
$49.99
HIS Hightech H467QT512P Radeon HD 4670
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814161252
$69.99
Crucial 2GB (2 x 1GB)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820146526
$21.99
Total ~ $306
I cant go any cheaper than that, for something you want to play games on
The GPU is fine, will play all modern games, maybe not at high resolution but will sure play them
The MOBO is good aswell, plenty of support for upgrades
The CPU will do, its still very low end, but it will totally own the CPU you have now
RAM well its cheap and cheerful ;)
Remember you will need HDD's, case and maybe even new DVD-rw

be aware, you can build a POS AM or AM2 dual core system for around $200 (figure $250 if you want a good PSU and Cooling), stick a PCIe Vcard in there (budget $100 too, but you're cruising compared to what you'll get outta that $200 "upgrade") and run oodles better than anything your current PC can do.
For proof of concept though: just $200? RAM and VCard are your priorities.
184 pin right?
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231039
$60 round about.
Then for a Vcard...ew. AGP...

$84
That could work. I have an Intel 478 that can run Crysis. Not max settings, but it plays without hanging...much.

You will need a PSU aswell ;)

hmmm if you are running vista you i advise getting GPU, even a reallllllly low end one just to give the OS that little "umpft" but its always nice to have a graphics card, just in case you do to buy any games. Even old games like bully still need something :D Im sure you might want to play a bit of Call of duty 4 (5 sucks ;)) or 6 when it comes ;).
Anyway its your money so up to you :) but that extra $106 over the $200 budget will give you about 400% over you old system and 150% over a $200 system increase in performance in game ;)

Okay; an Athalon x64 for your consideration:
MOBO (AM2)
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-Details.asp?EdpNo=3827134
$50
CPU
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103669&nm_mc=OTC-Froogle&cm_mmc=OTC-Froogle-_-Processors+-+Desktops-_-AMD-_-19103669
$44
RAM
http://www.buy.com/prod/hp-2gb-ddr2-sdram-memory-module-2gb-1-x-2gb-800mhz-ddr2-800-pc2-6400/q/loc/101/206897672.html
$34 (single stick; board supports 4 gigs so you can double up later)
PSU
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817153023
$40 ($30 with Mail-In)
Heatsink
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835103050
$10
VCard:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121314
$70 ($55 after Mail-In)
Cost to Build: $248
Cost After Rebates: $223
You can get the crucial from newegg that George Hallam links and be in the same shape (Cost after rebates and RAM swap: $211) but upgrading later would mean kicking your sticks.
Its not the best brown rabbit I've ever pulled from my pants, but it would run the games you want with a little something left over.
Just thought you'd like some options.
