My vista ultimate is stuck on an endless loop of rebooting after trying to install an update for sp1
There is an article all about it on Microsoft.com http://support.microsoft.com/kb/949358

I can't boot into safe mode either with or without networking, nor can I do a safe mode with command prompt...so I can't get into vista at all to try and restore.

I have another drive on the pc that I can boot off and I can access the drive from here...
any ideas on how to remove the last update, or run a command for system restore from my other drive so I can fix the vista drive?
Thanks

Do you have a Vista installation disk - if not then see if you can borrow one. I don't know if you need an ultimate version or whether any version would do. You should be able to get from the Repair options to System Restore that way. That's the way I fixed the same problem last week. I think the only other way would be a reinstall or the replacement of a complete backup.

On some makes/models you can initiate the repair process from a special HotKey during boot-up.
