I´m looking at the Samsung spinpoint F1 , 1 tera. HD103UJ

I´ve read some mixed reviews, and was wondering if anyone is using them.
All my hard drives have been Maxtor diamond or seagate in the past.
I was thinking of taking the plunge as they report quieter , less power usage, and generally faster.

Yeah, I've read some of those reports too.
See my other thread here (http://www.pcguide.com/vb/showthread.php?t=67658) about Seagate vs Samsung drives - other members made some good comments there. :)
As far as reliability etc is concerned, I would be looking at the Western Digital green series, as they are very cool-running - heat kills electronics faster then just about anything else, so cool drives(in theroy) should last longer then a similar one running hot. Obviously there is more to it then that, but that is one way to look at it. The WD Green's also have slower spindle-speed etc to save power, and this does not make them the fastest drives on the market in terms of transfer speed, but who cares about that, if you were using one for external backups and/or storage. :p
I have a Samsung 500GB SATA drive in an external case, new about the same time as I started that other thread, and so far, it has given no problems at all, but I would hope not as it is so new. :)

I think in the past couple of years that Samsung have really come to the fore with a whole range of good and different hardware and at very competitive prices on the whole. I now actually get their hard drives (and colour laser printers) about 75% of the time. Occasionally makers can happen to produce bad lines of their stuff (there was one notorious class action against maxtor in the past) but in the main how the drive gets from the factory to your PC is probably the biggest determinant of its longevity; that and having a good PSU and UPS both help.
