View Full Version : Loading game onto my hard drive
Can anyone tell me if you can run a computer game from the hard drive if you have enough space? The cd (The Sims) doesn't give me any options for this.
Thanks

This can usually be done, and your game should run faster after you do it.
First: go to the properties sheet of your CDROM and turn off "autorun".
Next: Create a folder on the C: drive called Sims.
Next: Put the CD in the drive. Open the drive from "my computer" so that you can see all of the files contained in it.
Next: select all of the files ..."edit-select all"
Next: Right click the files and chose "Copy"
Next: go to the Sims folder in the C: drive, open it,right click, and chose "paste" .
This should transfer all of the files to your hard drive, and allow you to run the game from your HD.
Hi tg,
Thanks for the info. I loaded cd onto the hard drive but it still asks for the CD and won't run. I tried the setup file and play from that but still no go. I guess the game won't allow it??

Lo
This is generally a procedure associated with software piracy.
Unless Charles or Pete gives the OK, i think i will remain silent. Laters...

Good call chad, you're correct, I think...
Bypassing the CD ROM requirement may be a gray area, since if you do have the retail CD, you do legally own the software, but legally, bypassing the CD insert notification would be a no-no, so I'll have to say you'll have to look elsewhere for that information.
In some cases copying the CD to the hard drive will work, in others it won't. Applications are available that will get around this, but I can't permit links to those to be posted here, but I'll go out on a limb and say they are available. Where to find them is your problem. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif
Good enough??

I think it may not be worth the trouble and just use the cd each time.I have found you can spend ages in front of a PC and get nowhere in the end!! I will accept that I can't do it with this game.I haven't even got a cd burner, I just usually buy the games and if they are too expensive I don't buy them at all.
Thanks all.
