Hi Guys,
Just when I thought things were ok, Things went tits up! I purchased a CDRW and after installing it according to the instructions everything was fine apart from the fact that when I try to copy a audio my machine freezes.
Any ideas!

Hi crispy,

Do you use Adaptec Create CD or what application ??
Do you have problems with other methods of 'burning' cd's ( such as making music cd's from mp3's) ??

Do you have many other programs running while u r trying to accomplish this ??

You may want to check for IRQ conflicts (someone will be along momentarily to advise on that) http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif

Many Thanks for your reply,
In answer to your question yes it is the Adaptec programme (easy!)
The programme just seems to go off and do it's own thing but gets so far into the works then just freezes.
I would imagine that everything is connected correctly.
Data can be copied
I have set the CDRW as slave and the CD rom as master isthat correct? (bloody instructions)
Speak to you soon.
by the way there are no other programmes running

How much memory do you have and how much free hard drive space do you have for the program to cache data while writing?

Is DMA turned on or off for either or both drives?

Just guessing, I'm not positive if any of these things would have a major affect, but they might be worth checking out. Also are you burning at the slowest speed possible? Trying to copy "on the fly" or by caching to the hard drive first?

I would assume that the connections are all correct.
If I try to enable DMA on the drives I have to reboot the system, Then after reboot the settings are back to what they were.
I do have enough memory. I can download Data to the drive, It plays audio sounds.
Should I connect the drive as master or slave? at the moment the connection is CDRW as master it is connected to the CD ROM which is set as slave, This is then connected to the motherboard.
My motherboard is a SIS530 as previously mentioned in another topic.
Many thanks for your help so far.
PS Sorry paleo for the personal reply I know that problems should be discussed as a group.

Hi All,
Just to let you all know that I have managed to get the CDRW up and running. For your info the problem was that I could not enable DMA on the CD Rom. So I have had to revert to just using the one drive. Maybe I should have known this but nowhere did it say to do this in the instructions.
Many Thanks for all your help.
