View Full Version : Copying Data to CD's

OK, I'm in unfamiliar territory here, so I'll drop a question to our quite knowledgeable crew.

My sister recently installed a CD writer in her Compaq, my pet peeve, (GRRRR!!!) and it seems to be working fine, no hardware problems. She recently also got a digital camera for Christmas, and is trying to copy pictures to CD. The CD-R uses Nero, and so far I can find nothing that allows simply copying data from the hard drive directly to CD, all I can find is that it will copy an image (.img file) from the hard drive, or copy directly from CD.

Does anyone know enough about Nero to help us figure out how to copy her pictures in a usable format? I'll be checking for a Nero website too, and looking through the help files in the program, so I may be able to find a bit of info, but thought I'd post a question here too. She's headed out of town for a week or two, so I'll have some time to tinker a bit and try to figure it out before she gets back, and maybe find out how to get it working right. I have to check into it and get more info, she mentioned something about an .iso file extension, I think, but it was sketchy, I'll have to do some more digging and let you know later.

Anyone have any clues?

We can copy from CD to CD with no problems, and they seem to work fine, games etc...haven't tried a music CD yet, but I suspect that will work too, it has options for copying audio, should be no problem.

Hey Pete http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif

I dont know about 'Nero', however the principle has to be the same, (and much easier than it appears), as the proceedure for making music cd's from mp3 files stored IN ur pc.

There is an explorer window that you can pick what files (data/music,pix) and just add them to ur window.. its Very easy (if its like Adaptec)

The easiest way is to use the Wizard. (I'm using version 4, but this may apply to ver. 5):

If Wizard does not come up when the program starts, click Help, then click Wizard to enable it, then click File, New, and the Wizard should appear. Click on Compile New CD, then Data, then Compile New Data CD, then Finish. Select the files or folders from the File Browser on the right, and drag-and-drop on the New CD icon in the left panel. Put in the CD, then click the Burn button, select the burn speed, then click Burn..

The default settings are for a multi-session disk. The disk is immediately ready to use in a standard CD-ROM (if using a CD-R disk), and files can be added later by selecting Continue Multi-session disk, if the Burn session is not set to finalize the disk.

I saw the explorer type window, and wasn't able to get very clear instructions from the help files, and didn't spend a lot of time on it either, had too much going on at the time. Reid posted instructions in another topic, I'm printing them out, should help out a lot.

Guess while my sister's gone I need to crank up the old Compuke and tinker around with Nero a bit...
Thanks for the help...
