View Full Version : MySpace is incompatible with Opera 9.x/10

This is really, really an outrage to me. I'm not too sure how many, or if anyone on the PC Guide uses Opera, but I've been a long standing user. MySpace is trying harder and harder to implement its "Web 2.0" service, but has become incompatible with Opera. I can't leave comments, or do just about any updating with Opera on MySpace now. They say they follow "Web 2.0" standards, but Opera is the most strict browser on W3 specifications for the web. This is an outrage, or at least I view it as such. What do you think?
Opera 10 is still in development, so there might be a few bugs in it. Have you tried the "Masquerade as IE" option, just in case it makes a difference (F12=>Edit Site Preferences=>Network)?

FWIW I can blog and comment with Opera 9.64 and identifying itself as Opera.

My laptop and Acer use Firefox. My 98se uses opera. If opera doesn't work try a different browser. Majorgeeks.com has a lot of different browsers you can download.

nuz, i tried that, and it somewhat worked with status updates, but i couldn't post them or comments.
Paul Komski, what's FWIW mean? and if you could post and ask about it, that'd be greatly appreciated. I highly doubt it's Opera's fault, just MySpace being horrible with web standards like usual.
PhilXP, i like Opera's rendering engine, it renders faster than KHTML (Safari and variants), Gecko (Firefox and variants), and Trident (Internet Explorer and its various shells).
they're the big 4 out there, and i don't want to be forced to switch.

Sorry. FWIW = For what its worth.
I'm not into social networking at all but have had to access both myspace and bebo for others on various occasions and neither have been problematic AFAIK ( as far as I know ;) ) from Opera. Such CMS (Content Management System/Software) that allows one to directly edit content on blogs and such like quite often do not "play fair" with all users or all browsers. Most are javascript heavy so that as a minimum would need to be enabled in any browser you are using.
The latest Opera is "very smooth" and even though it is still in beta Google Chrome is very slick as well.

MySpace used to not be so heavy on Java, but it seems like everything they once used to comment, update, and essentially use whatsoever, they're turning into Java. Opera 9.x/10 are all Java enabled on my computer, and yet they can't be used to do anything. I would send a complaint to MySpace, but they're not going to pay any attention to it, there's millions and millions of users on MySpace, they don't care about one kid and his browser. MySpace has been known for its horrible W3 compliance, and even though it used to play fair with Opera, that seems to have changed. I really hope I can find a workaround for this, because I don't like Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and especially IE, or anything else compared to Opera.

OPERA WORKS NOW.
thank God.
i think it was Java, not Opera.
Java 6 update 14 seemed to do the trick, for now.
and i'm happy :D.
thanks guys!
