Captured an LP to HDD thru amp hooked to SB X-Fi card using Nero 9 Wave editor.
Cleaned up the clicks & crackle w/ Wave Ed & saved using "Save Tracks as Files" option (as .wav).
When listen to those cleaned .WAV files directly from HDD (even w/ headphones), very little noise is audible - to me.
When create an Audio CD compilation w/ Burning ROM 9, & select same exact files I just listened to, burn as audio CDA, the clicks are back when play CD. Played it on different players / PC - same clicking.
Ran the original ripped .wav files back through Declicking / Decrackling in Wave Ed, increasing amount of noise to remove, saved to diff folder.
Tried burning another compilation - same clicking is back after burn CD.
2nd batch of cleaned files still sound very clean straight off HDD using Media Player.
If I listen to 1st / 2nd burned CD w/ WMP, in the same DVD burner used to BURN it w/ Nero , clicks are quite audible.
What's going on when some (much) of cleaned noise comes back when files are burned from .WAV to CDA format?
Thanks.

Sounds to me the clicks are part of the recording and there's nothing you can do about it other than do another take...
Windows and it's bazillion different sounds to represent something, good, bad,, ugly...
Did you mean scratches?
The clicks can be bats in the belfry or an impatient 'mouse' clicker..

FTT,
Uh...
When listen to those cleaned .WAV files directly from HDD (even w/ headphones), very little noise is audible - to me.
IOW, the "cleaned up" .wav files sound great - playing them from the HDD - no matter what I'm using to play them with.
So what difference does it make if the original noise on LP was scratches, dust, bats or bullet holes? The noise is GONE in the cleaned .wav files. It only comes back after burning the clean wav files to CD (CDA).

Is Wave Ed part of NERO? I could read up on it if you like. It sounds like you aren't actually getting the cleaned tracks to disk or the software is only between the file and your soundcard.
Try looking at file size comparison between the original track/file and the remastered/cleaned file. Is there a dif in size?
Could you check the bit rate, sample size and sample rate of your cleaned .wav files? (Right-click on the file=>Properties=>Summary(Tab)=>Advanced.
And that of your burnt compilation.

Haven't determined positively if this is the problem, but tested on one track & results seemed much better.
Found a buried snippet in Nero WaveEditor's help file about an option:
Use dithering when converting to lower bit depths
Overlays sound errors that arise when converting to a lower bit depth with a white noise that is hardly noticed by human hearing. If there is no dithering, clearly audible interference can be heard when converting to lower bit depths.
I originally ripped the LPs at 24 bit. I believe Nero Burning (possibly most prgms) use 16 bit by default when burning to CDA format. I'm not sure it even gives a choice for bit depth when burning a wav file to CDA.
Since I didn't know about the dithering option (or even what it is / does), the burning process may have burned 24 bit files to 16 bit. Haven't confirmed this as the problem, but one track ripped at 16 bits, cleaned up, then burned to CDA seemed to sound fine. It's a long learning curve for me & Nero's help files are notorious for spreading information all over the place so you have to hunt for it.
the burning process may have burned 24 bit files to 16 bit.
I believe that is exactly what happened. You might also want to check that your sampling rate is approximately 44.1 kHz.

Thanks.

When ripping from LPs or burning to CD in CDA?
AFAIK, Nero doesn't give an option to set bit depth or sampling rate when creating Audio CD compilation. So if your statement referred to settings in the burn setup, I'm not sure where/ if that can be changed. I haven't found a place to change it.
