You can copy the contents of a dvd to your hd using a program called a "ripper" the program unencrypts the files so that they are in a usable format...at least this is how it works with dvd movies...

In your case I'm assuming you have service manuals on dvd and a program is installed on your computer that tells you which dvd has the needed info on it.

If this is the case, the program will probably only access the information from a dvd drive, not a directory on your hd (as a security feature)

You may still be able to do it though...there are programs that copy the contents of a cd-rom to your hard drive and assign the information a drive letter so that any programs that normally access a cdrom drive, will access this part of your hd thinking that it is a cd drive...I don't know if you can do this with a dvd...

Another consideration is that the contents of a dvd are huge...several gigabytes each, so even if you have 20 gb of free space on your hd, that may only hold 4 dvds...

if you go to www.divx-digest.com (http://www.divx-digest.com) and do a search for rippers, you will find a prgram called claddvd...this will allow you to copy the contents of a dvd to your hd...the only trick at that point is to get the program to look on the hd instead of thedvd drive...

good luck, let me know if you have any questions...
