Gonna buy a new pc in the next couple of months (now that I've tinkered with the kid's pc long enough)...I've got an extensive Album collection that I'm looking to put on CD. Aside from burning CD's I'm clueless in the analog to digital, mixer to clean up distortion, sound card options, processes etc. What is the hardware that I'm gonna need besides the basic pc with lots of power and memory? What's the software I'm gonna need? Any help from you musicians out there? Thanks

Well, let's leave the computer out of the equation for a minute. The first thing is you will need a good source (stereo) and line out from it. You will need a patch cable of some sort (RCA to stereo miniplug) to connect the stereo to the sound card. Try to keep this cable as short as possible to minimize signal loss.
As to a sound card I can't think of why any decent modern one wouldn't work. If you could find any specs on signal to noise ratio for the line- in it may help your decision.
Some kind of software.. well an album ripper (LP ripper) to handle converting the songs into some kind of digital format (I assume you don't want a whole bunch of .wav files). I came across this site looking up some stuff for you I haven't really done much looking here but it looks promising: SharewareMusicMachine (http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/)
They've got rippers, cleaners, all sorts of goodies I'm just aching to try out.

This is the software I use for recording from analog to digital. It has all the tools you will ever need, Download a trail version here.
