Before the latest upgrade and persistently after, I get way too many pop unders. I checked my settings and these should be blocked. Also checked the Mozilla forums and tried a couple of their "fixes" the pop unders are still there. Is it possible to rescue Firefox or do I need to switch to opera?

I don't get pop-ups, pop-unders, or any kind of pops with Firefox...but then, I use this add-on:

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/722

It's NoScript and quite a few of us here use it. It prevents scripts from being launched in your browser. Besides being annoying, they are a definite security risk. It's manageable and configurable. You can add sites you trust to your "white list". You can just "temporarily" allow sites as you visit. One thing is for sure, you'll be amazed at all the garbage that sites try to run by you without you knowing. ANd, if nothing else, all that script stuff can really take its toll on the speed of your "browsing experience".

NoScript may not be for everyone, you have to learn just a bit. If you hate pop-ups, unders, slowed browsing, and security risks...it's worth the effort.

do I need to switch to opera? You won't know if you like a different browser till you try one. Both Opera and Chrome have a lot going for them at the moment. I often use more than one browser instead of opening multiple windows or tabs in any one single browser.

Firefox is very effective in blocking popups and popunders... If you are still getting them, your computer is probably infected...

If FireFox crashes and it is displaying you with a choice of {recover}, or {open a new session}, choose 'recover'.

This will a least get you to your recent ventures to save-link if needed and usually does not re-blast you with popups or unders.

Then you can figure out why the popups are buggin yur gut...

No contamination and the add on fixed the problem. A bit irritating at times, but I'm getting used to it.
