I had to get a new hd. I had to find my speakers online and reinstall them. My mic hasn't worked at all since I got my new hd. When I click on the speaker in the tray, under the mic column, mute is always checked. I uncheck it, but still doesn't work. If I reboot, its checked again for mute. It doesn't detect a mic at all where you test the hardware. I tested the mic on another pc - works just fine.

Here are some of the properties:
Voice playback has two options:
SoundMAX Digital Audio
Modem #0 Line Playback

Voice Recording:
SoundMAX Digital Audio
Modem #0 Line Playback

When I test the mic - it shows no detection of it working.
Any suggestions?

Did you transfer your data from the old HD to the new one? If you did a clean Windows install onto the new HD then you would need to reinstall the audio drivers also.

I did add the audio - that's what is showing in the drop down box - Soundmax Digital Audio
The speakers are fine.
I don't have the mic. I didn't know there was anything you had to install to have a mic according to everything I've looked up. I thought you just plug it in. But since it's not working, I'm asking what else I might try. But the audio does work. And it was a brand new hd - nothing but files did I transfer over from an external HD. I had to add most programs and such back.

Which version of Windows and what are you using to test the microphpne?

Its screwy that it keeps resetting itself.

Have you been able to go: Control Panel >> Sounds and Audio Devices >> Voice Tab. Then try changing the Default Device and checking each time the Volume controls; Microphone should then be enabled and the Volume set at a reasonable level. There is also a MS Wizard to test sound and recording in that area. If not WinXP it may be different than I have described.

If still problematic check Device Manager for any problem devices and consider updating your sound card's drivers.

It's fixed - thanks.
I think when I unplugged everything to take the tower to the pc shop that I didn't replug things back in correctly with my speakers. Since then, I had to unplug all again and have stuff moved in this room and didn't attempt the mic again when everything was plugged back in. I plugged it in now and it works!
